Mets March Madness 3-17

It’s Selection Sunday (and also St. Patrick’s Day). Fill out your brackets to and try to figure out who’s going to be top 25 when the Mets open up the season. Twice a week, I’ll take look at who left in the Spring Training picture and sort them out Bracketology style. Who’s the last four in, who’s the last four out? Who an automatic qualifier? Check it.

Procedural Bumps: d’Arnaud into way out 4. Quintanilla into next four out.

Outside looking in: RHP Cory Mazzoni

Another round of cuts this week knocked out  INF Wilmer Flores, RHP Carlos Torres*,  and 1B Josh Satin*. No surprises there. All were moved to minor league camp. Flores looked like he needed more time at a higher minor league level to get his swing up to speed. Plus another year at second base may get him sure-handed enough to play everyday. Satin was doing alright, but he’s blocked by layers of players. He’ll be an injury call up or a packaged prospect in a trade. Torres was just a body to eat innings as far as I’m concerned. He’ll get time at AAA to build up his stock.

I still have Murphy making the opening day start, but not Wright. And I’m making the gutsy call that Lutz get the starts at third.
