Mets March Madness Final Edition

As part of the best April Fools joke ever, March continues in April! This is the final roster and a little bit of review on my part. But as a quick aside, I will no longer be following the NCAA tournament for three reasons (1) It’s no longer March so March Madness no longer exists, (2) Baseball has officially started, (3) I have filled my quotient of horrific basketball injuries for the season.

The following list is the final roster with players I had pegged for the roster in (parenthesis). Follow after for analysis on who’s bubble popped.

Analysis: Turned out Murphy and Wright were both going to be healthy enough to play. That means Zach Lutz got squeezed out of the roster. I’m a little sad, I wanted to see what Lutz could do, even if it was just to turn him into a better trade chip. The decision to send down LHP Aaron Laffey* to stretch out in a starting role means that the Mets won’t use him as long reliever/spot starter, Familia won’t be used as a long reliever, so the Mets currently don’t have that guy on the roster. I thought Familia would make the roster the day after I posted the last March Madness. I thought that despite his bad spring, INF Brandon Hicks would stay on the roster, since he was on the 40 man, however, he had an option left so off to Vegas. I though Quintanilla might snag a spot seeing as how the front office love him so much, but since he came in on a minor league deal, there is no harm is filing him away and pulling him up if a shortstop is needed.  Pedro Feliciano*,C Travis d’Arnaud, Zach Wheeler  possibly Matt Den Dekker are all guys I think will get called up over the course of the season. I didn’t want to see Robert Carson, but he’s a reasonable option should Rice be terrible. Darin Gorski should get more time in the minors. Just because a guy has stuff, doesn’t mean he knows how to use it.
