2017 Tiered Hall of Fame Ballot

Once again it is time to cast my IBWAA Hall of Fame Ballot, but first here’s how the voting would have gone for my theoretical Tiered Hall of Fame. Here’s the last “Golden Ballot” I did in 2014 (2105 was a lost year due to a pile of issues)

For reference here’s the eligible IBWAA players.

Notes:

  1. Each name is linked to that particular player’s Baseball-Reference.com page.
  2. Asterisk (*) for first-time candidates
  3. Jeff Bagwell, Edgar Martinez and Tim Raines have already been honored in previous IBWAA elections, which is why you don’t see their names listed here.

Golden Tier (Max 3, first ballot HOF)– Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, Vlad Guerrero.

Silver Tier (Max 10, multiple ballot HOF) – Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Trevor Hoffman, Jeff Kent, Mike Mussina, Jorge Posada, Curt Schilling, Gary Sheffield, Lee Smith, Larry Walker.

Bronze Tier (Additional up to 15 across all tiers, additional consideration for HOF) – Manny Ramirez, Sammy Sosa, Billy Wagner.

So the Bronze Tier guys are there because they have a Hall of Fame case, but it’s not the strongest, or they were suspended for breaking the rules of baseball to enhance their game.

As for my actual IBWAA ballot? Stay Tuned.
